Two Pedestals reimagines the role of the pedestal, transforming it from a static support into a dynamic field of light, shadow, and sound. The installation features three pedestals, but only two physically exist—the third is positioned in a corner and is perceptually created through a visual illusion, generating a subtle tension between reality and perception. Another perspective arises when the pedestal covered entirely by projection lines is painted black; it disappears into the darkness, leaving only two pedestals in the space. This experience is reminiscent of the Japanese rock garden at Ryōan-ji, where fifteen stones are arranged in the courtyard, but from any angle, only fourteen are visible—one is always hidden, symbolizing the mysteries of life and the unknowable. The title emphasizes the number “three” while highlighting contrasts: motion and stillness, light and darkness, presence and absence. These contrasts are expressed through two types of dynamic projections and an immersive soundscape, creating a temporal and spatial experience inspired by Expanded Cinema that extends beyond the traditional screen.
