From Dongta Village to Shimenzhai Town is a performance and video work that explores migration, displacement, and the fragility of human settlements. The work begins with me dragging six bricks from my home village to the county town, during which the bricks became broken, worn, and even lost. By the time all six bricks were gone, I reached a riverbank, symbolizing life and new beginnings. The piece documents the forced migration from a small village to a larger town, reflecting the shift from individual life to collective existence under the pressures of war and social forces.

The loss of the bricks symbolizes the disappearance of home and the fading of personal memory, while human energy and history are forever inscribed in the long river of time. Through contemplation of impermanence, collective memory, and the traces of human labor and life, the work presents both the fragility and resilience of communities in the face of change.
