Chindogu
Arduino, Interaction

Inspired by the Japanese concept of
Chindogu, which involves creating ingenious yet impractical solutions to everyday problems, my work explores the absurd intersections of human behavior, culture, and technology. In Dumbbells, the fusion of food and exercise equipment humorously critiques society’s obsession with health and wellness, highlighting the impractical extremes of contemporary fitness culture. In Wipers, a performative interaction with custom glasses, wipers, and simulated rain reflects humanity’s often absurd attempts to control nature through technology, questioning whether innovation truly enhances our connection to the world. Both works blur the boundaries between utility and absurdity, prompting viewers to reflect on human ingenuity, vulnerability, and the tension between adaptation, control, and acceptance in daily life.
